How online therapy works, and what to expect.
New to telehealth, or to therapy full stop? Here's exactly how it works, so there are no surprises.
Is online therapy as good as in person?
For most people, yes. Research shows video-based psychology is as effective as face-to-face for many common concerns, with the bonus that you can do it from a space where you already feel safe.
What you'll need
That's genuinely it. Sessions run on secure, private video.
A private spot
Somewhere you can talk comfortably. It doesn't have to be perfect.
A phone or laptop
Whatever you already have with a camera works just fine.
A reasonable connection
A steady internet connection is all it takes to meet.
Your first session
The first session is mostly about getting to know you: what's brought you here, what you'd like to be different, and how we might work together. There's no pressure to tell your whole story at once.
